Gupta Farmhouse

Jodhpur, Rajasthan

  • YEAR :

The layout of the villa does not follow the convention of the front facade opening towards the main street. Rather, a path along thick stone walls leads from the driveway to the formal living area, and further to the main residence. These thick stone walls continue to wrap the residence on all sides to minimize the heat gain. Situated on the outskirts of Jodhpur, this residence has been designed on a plot area of 14000 SqFt. The client approached us with a simple brief, to build a lifestyle residence with three bedrooms, a spacious living and dining area with a bar, and a formal living room which is separated from the main house. Keeping in mind the client’s love to host gatherings and parties, the layout of the villa is planned around a swimming pool. Large glazed sliders open from the living and bar areas to the pool deck, allowing the deck to become the spill out space. The pool and glazing are consciously oriented toward the north to minimize the heat intake. The pool area is the core, keeping the surroundings cool. The master bedroom overlooks the pool from the east, and an organic vegetable garden on the other side. The master bathroom is designed with its own private garden and a Jacuzzi that opens into it. The other two bedrooms are situated on the first floor and open on to large terrace gardens.
